CARPENTER CUP CLASSIC

The 25th annual Carpenter Cup Classic is taking place June 14 to 21. The first two rounds of this single-elimination showcase event featuring 16 high school all-star baseball teams from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware are at Richie Ashburn Field, Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, with the semifinals and final moving over to Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way.

GAMP BASEBALL UPDATE

The Girard Academic Music Program baseball team was eliminated in the first round of the PIAA Class A tournament Monday by Christopher Dock, 15-5 in a six-inning affair.

GREEN UPDATE

Prep Charter and La Salle University grad has worked out for the Miami Heat and Charlotte Bobcats with another to follow today in New Jersey. He final scheduled pre-draft visit is June 15 with the Milwaukee Bucks.

“We have received favorable NBA feedback about Rodney and we are happy he is getting these well-deserved opportunities,” La Salle head coach Dr. John Giannini said in a story posted on the La Salle Explorers Website.

The NBA Draft takes place June 24.

JEDI TENNIS

Jedi Tennis is holding beginner tennis classes 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays at Guerin Rec Center, 1600 Jackson St. and 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays at Barry Playground, 1800 Bigler St. The $15 fee covers all classes at both locations and will run for eight weeks.
