Although the motive did not seem to be robbery, a teen was left with head and facial injuries after allegedly being attacked in a South of South neighborhood last Friday.

While riding his skateboard south on the 800 block of South 17th Street at 11:43 p.m., a group of men surrounded the 19-year-old, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The men allegedly punched him in the face and head, forcing his phone to fly from his possession before they fled on foot. Nothing was said to or demanded from the teen.

Upon arrival, police saw four men walking east on the 1500 block of Catharine Street. Two of them — Kenyatta Simmons, 19, of the 700 block of South 16th Street, and Bryan Lee, 20, of the 700 block of Mercy Street — were identified as being involved in the incident. The two were charged with simple assault and criminal conspiracy. The other two were released as they could not be positively identified at the time.

The teen’s phone was not recovered, Tolliver said. He did not seek medical treatment for the swelling of his face and the lumps on the back of his head.
