A Hawthorne man was charged with two counts of attempted murder Feb. 21, but after one victim died last week, he will be charged for his murder.

James Thompson, of the 1200 block of Bainbridge Street, allegedly shot Scoey Potter, 33, of Edgewater N.J. and his 29-year-old brother on the unit block of Second Street Feb. 20, Officer Tanya Little of Police Public Affairs Unit said.

Potter died 4:48 p.m. Feb. 28 due to complications from his chest wound, Little said. He and his brother were believed to be involved in an altercation inside Bleu Martini, 24 S. Second St. Once the parties were escorted outside the bar, Thomspon allegedly shot the siblings with the younger struck three times in the abdomen.

Both were transported to Jefferson, Little said. Police did not have an update on the surviving brother.

Thompson was charged with murder, possession of an instrument of crime, terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person and firearm violations Monday. Those charges join attempted murder and related charges filed Feb. 27 and 28.
