A group of men carjacked a pizza deliveryman in Grays Ferry, but fled on foot after crashing his car.

A 27-year-old deliveryman from Key Pizza, 1846 S. 12th St., transported a pie to the 1800 block of Moore Street at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. However, no one in that household ordered anything. The employee called the customer, who supplied the correct address on the 1800 block of South 30th Street.

When the driver arrived, two men waved him down, Tolliver said. He exited his 1994 Buick Century and handed the order to one of the men, who asked the other, “do you have the money for the pizza?”

Then another man punched the worker in the face causing a swollen, bloody lip while another held him down and took $40 from his front right pocket, Tolliver said. The employee broke free and ran to an apartment security guard for assistance.

One of the thieves sped off in his car, but crashed it near 31st Street, Tolliver said. The assailants fled south toward Mifflin.

The man did not seek medical treatment.

The offenders were described as black with a dark complexion, thin and wearing all dark-colored clothing. One was described as being age 21, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and having a small Afro while the other was described as being age 18 to 21. No information was provided for the other two men.
