A Dickinson Narrows native will be featured in a North Philly exhibit showcasing Venezuela’s independence.

Casa de Venezuela’s third annual Diálogo 365 Arts Collective, which runs through Oct. 27 at Crane Arts, 1400 N. American St., features Tony Rocco, a Fifth-and-Dickinson-streets native, along with a variety of regional artists of Latino, Latin America and Caribbean heritage.

The collective is in honor of Venezuela’s 200th year of independence and its art features the themes of liberty and independence. Diálogo 365’s goal is to highlight the culture seen in the work of these artists who reside in the Northeast United States.

The images presented in Rocco’s work show stories of individuals struggling for a better life and seeking freedom from socio-economic limitations. The pieces contain a strong realist quality that combine Rocco’s South Philly roots with the time he has spent in Colombia — his mother’s native country.

“I always like to tell interesting and important stories through photographs,” Rocco said in a statement. “In my case, the photos I take represent the struggle of Latinos in Latin America and the United States of America.”
