Starting line high five

For the second year in a row, Mayor Michael Nutter will be present at the Philadelphia Marathon’s starting line giving a high five to one selected runner. The Marathon is accepting nominations for individuals who have overcome adversity in their journey to the starting line.

The High Five Award will add to the excitement by honoring the training and hard work it takes for participants to get to the competition,” Nutter said. “That might mean overcoming obstacles, making plans and setting goals, competing for a loved one, raising money for charity or some other accomplishment.”

To nominate a Philadelphia Marathon participant, e-mail their story in 500 words or less to HighFiveAward@gmail.com by Oct. 31. Nutter will announce the recipient at a Nov. 18 press conference at the beginning of the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend.
