A man robbed a Whitman shoe store Saturday night.

Two 33-year-old employees were working at Payless Shoes, 330 Oregon Ave., at 8:42 p.m. when a man walked in, pointed a black automatic handgun at them and said, “this is a robbery,” Detective Tamika Selden of South Detective Division said. He directed the workers to clear the register and safe. He fled the store with $402.13 and headed through the parking lot toward Oregon.

The robber was described as black with a dark complexion, late 30s to early-40s; having a stocky build; and wearing a dark-colored skull cap, gray zipper fleece shirt, black pants and dark-colored sunglasses.
