Two men are in custody for their alleged involvement in a West Passyunk homicide, which is believed to have been retaliation of an unknown nature.

1st District police responded at 5:55 a.m. Sunday to the 2200 block of South Hemberger Street where officers located Sirmar Morris, 27, of the 2300 block of South Hemberger Street, with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, leg and groin, Officer Jill Russell of the Public Affairs Unit said. Morris was transported to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he was pronounced dead at 6:22 a.m.

Martinez Green

Police stopped a van allegedly occupied by Eddie Bell, 23, of the 5500 block of Wissahickon Avenue in Germantown, and Martinez Green, 22, of the 1600 block of South Sixth Street, on the 6200 block of Dickens Avenue in Southwest Philly in relation to the shooting, Russell said. Bell has been charged with murder, firearm violations, possession of an instrument of crime and possession of marijuana while Green was charged with firearm violations, according to court records.

Further details relating to the motive were not available at press time.

Green has been convicted of or has pled guilty to drug charges four times since 2009, resulting in prison time and probation, according to court records. He has violated his parole twice, with one time resulting in his probation being extended two more years in February. Bell has served time in jail after pleading guilty to drug charges in Delaware County while Morris was imprisoned for three drug-related crimes dating back to ’03.
