An attacker grabbed a woman by the throat in a South of South subway entrance stairway Monday evening.

SEPTA police responded to the 600 block of South Broad Street at 5:30 p.m. where a 30-year-old woman was walking down the steps into the Broad Street Line’s South Street station when a man ran up behind her, grabbed her by the throat and said, “Don’t fight it. Just let go,” Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He grabbed her purse containing credit cards, a checkbook, iPhone 4, medication, earrings and $10. He then instructed her not to scream and to continue down the stairs.

The thief was described as black with a dark complexion, age 25 to 30, 6-foot-4, 180 pounds; having a goatee; and wearing a black shirt and white shorts.
