A man was beaten with an unknown object while asleep in his Point Breeze home Tuesday.

The 49-year-old awoke at 2:45 a.m. in the second-floor bedroom of his dwelling on the 1400 block of Ringgold Street to find an unknown man striking him with a handheld item, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The two struggled and the intruder pointed a gun at the man before fleeing the building and running north on the 1300 block of South Taylor Street.

Nothing was taken from the man or his residence, but medics treated laceration on his head at the scene, Tolliver said.

The offender was described as black with a dark complexion, age 22 to 27, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, clean-shaven; having a medium build; and wearing dark-colored clothing.
