An unknown man attempted to hold up a Marconi newsstand.

The offender walked up to Mike’s News, 2644 S. Broad St., at 12:38 a.m. and said “What’s up, pop?” to the 33-year-old employee, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. The suspect looked around and it seemed like he was going to purchase an item, but instead turned around, pointed a silver handgun toward the register and said, “Give me all your money.”

The employee took cover behind a refrigerator and dialed 911, Tolliver said. The man sped off westbound on Oregon Avenue in a gray or black Oldsmobile or Mercury as his customers said, “He’s gone. He’s gone.”

The offender was described as Latino with a light complexion, age 20 to 25, 5-foot-8, 130 to 135 pounds, no facial hair and wearing a black Adidas hoodie.
