Demolition work began Monday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1332 S. Third St., which ceased salvaging souls Dec. 31 through an Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania directive. The former worship site had enjoyed a 145-year presence as a Pennsport staple, with many parishioners now offering prayers at Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church, 916 Swanson St.
