Tuesday proved frustrating for local teams entered in the state baseball and softball tournaments. The Neumann-Goretti Saints dropped their first-round AA contest against District 11’s top-seeded Salisbury, 6-2, in eight innings at Ashburn Field. As District 12’s No. 1 seed in Class A, the Girard Academic Music Program, 2136 W. Ritner St., fell 3-2 on a walk-off single to District 1’s top team, Calvary Christian, in first-round action at Temple University’s Ambler campus. The Girard Estate school’s top-seeded District 12 softball squad also became an opening-round victim, succumbing 12-0 in five innings against District 1’s best, Bristol, in a Class A affair at William Tennent High School.

The local clubs had hoped to give South Philly a boost after the Prep Charter Huskies baseball bunch lost Monday’s Class AA opener 13-4 to District 3’s top-ranked Delone Catholic at Northern York High School.
