After a rash of robberies on or near Broad Street one night, Police identified the culprit allegedly responsible for two of them.

Gerald Hogan, 36, of North Philly, allegedly was riding a bike when he approached a 28-year-old woman at 9:50 p.m. July 1 on the 1300 block of South Broad Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. He is believed to have threatened to shoot her if she didn’t hand over her bag. She gave him her wallet, which contained ID and $5. He fled southbound on Broad.

About 35 minutes later, Hogan allegedly pointed a silver handgun at a 14-year-old boy and told him to hand over his property, Tolliver said. The boy retrieved a yellow pocketknife and a quarter from his pocket. Hogan supposedly took the items and ordered the boy to run while he fled westbound on Tasker.

Both victims identified Hogan from a photo array, Tolliver said.

Hogan was arrested at 6 a.m. July 3 and charged with two counts of robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and simple assault; firearm violations; and related charges, according to court records. Hogan pled guilty to four simple assaults and a robbery between 1999 and 2002. His bail, which had not been posted at press time, was set at $300,000.

There also were three other robberies on Broad Street overnight, but police have not linked them to Hogan. Those heists occurred at 11:03 p.m. July 1 on the 1500 block of South 15th Street, 12:02 a.m. July 2 on the 1700 block of South Broad Street and 4:59 a.m. July 2 at 2000 block of South Broad Street, according to police.
