After picking up his prescriptions, a man was robbed and dragged alongside his thieves’ car Monday.

A 60-year-old man retrieved his medications at Eighth Street Pharmacy, 819 S. Eighth St., at 4:50 p.m. and started to head home southbound on Eighth when a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a late-model silver or gray sedan with chrome wheels near Christian Street offered him a lift, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. His passenger had been inside the pharmacy while the man obtained his drugs.

He accepted the offer, but when he tried to open the door, the driver grabbed his bag and drove off, briefly dragging the man, Tolliver said. The victim suffered cuts and bruises to his face, arms, legs and feet, but did not seek medical treatment.

Inside the stolen bag was various medications, $23, cigarettes and laundry detergent, totaling about $100, Tolliver said.

The driver was described as black, age 55; having a long black and gray beard and wearing an orange and white striped shirt. The passenger was described as black, age 51, possibly a resident of the 2000 block of South Bonsall Street and wearing a navy blue scarf and glasses with a light-colored frame.
