The South Philadelphia Branch, 1700 S. Broad St., closed New Year’s Eve as part of a plan that will see The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia demolish it and the adjacent recreation center. The work will yield the erection of a three-story structure that will house a CHOP facility, a city health center, a library and a recreation center next to the refurbished DiSilvestro Playground. The library’s website notes a likely November or December 2015 debut.
