Up in smoke

A woman who allegedly used a cigarette request to orchestrate a robbery ended up arrested in Lower Moyamensing Friday.

At 9:55 p.m., the complainant stated he was walking eastbound on the 800 block of West Moyamensing Avenue when an unknown female approached him to ask for a cigarette, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. As he reached for a butt, another individual, whom the victim could not describe to authorities, grabbed him from behind and threw him to the ground.

A fight between the complainant and the aggressor ensued, with the woman supposedly taking $600 and the victim’s identification before fleeing on foot. When the second figure let the man go, he pursued the female and quickly caught up with her, with the complainant, who had not sought treatment for a large lump and cut above his left eye and a gash to his left cheek as of press time, stating the woman shouted “Rape” when he grabbed her to retrieve his property. Flagging down an officer, he watched as the law enforcement figure recovered the missing items from the woman, Tolliver said. A search of the area for the unclassified individual produced nothing. Authorities arrested 46-year-old Elizabeth Mandrusiak of the 1800 block of Gladstone Street.
