Police arrested a South-of-South man for his reported assault and robbery of a woman in Center City.

At 10:45 p.m. Aug. 16, authorities responded to an incident on the 500 block of South 21st Street and learned an African-American man, whom the victim described as being in his 30s and 5-foot-8, having a dark complexion and wearing a blue shirt and tan khaki pants, approached her from behind, grabbed her hair, pulled her to the ground and removed her purse before running eastbound on Rodman Street from 21st Street, Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Receiving information regarding the offender’s identity, detectives placed the alleged thief’s photo in an array, with the victim deeming Dwayne Brooks, of the 1700 block of Christian Street, as her attacker.

Authorities prepared a search warrant for the 31-year-old’s residence the next day and arrested Brooks without incident. They charged the South-of-South inhabitant, who had not posted his $20,000 bail as of press time and awaits a Sept. 2 preliminary hearing, with assault, robbery and theft.
