Looking at both sides

To the Editor:

I feel very distressed over the controversial opinions with law enforcement and its negativity. The real issue lies with the fact that sides have been taken, and the law seems to be on the losing end.

Of course there are circumstances that need to be taken into consideration, as every situation is different. I know there have there been instances where extreme force was used unnecessarily, and this is why wearing body cameras may be the solution; no one can deny what is on video. However, police officers have become sitting ducks, waiting for their next attack and then being persecuted for acting on a criminality in the way that they were trained.

Maybe the latest killing sprees have made cops feel more exposed and vulnerable with good reason. There does not seem to be any respect for authority and human life, yet when the perpetrator is killed in the crossfire, they are considered victims. There are always two sides to every story, but the truth must be told or there will be hell to pay, and we are certainly feeling the repercussions of the lies.

I personally feel that if you are not committing a crime or trying to attack an officer, you will not be shot. I do not see cops walking down the street randomly shooting people. These were acts of violence, and they needed to be addressed so that we, the upstanding citizens, can feel safe and protected. We live in a world where there is no such thing as being overly cautious, so I, for one, am very grateful to know that there are many watching over us because if not for this protection, we would all become victims.
