Friday, October 11

Movie Night in Marconi Plaza at 7 p.m. at 13th and Bigler. Enjoy a screening of Disney’s “Dumbo.” Watch a free movie with hot dogs and popcorn. All proceeds will go toward the Friends of Marconi, which sponsors and organizes these events and helps maintain the park. This event is sponsored by the Sports Complex Special Services District. Italian Language Movie Matinee at noon at Fumo Family Library, 2437 S. Broad St. Enjoy a screening of “I’m Not Scared,” which follows a young boy accidentally discovering a deep hole in the ground where another boy is kept prisoner. Director: Gabriele Salvatores. Running time: 1 hour 48 minutes.

Saturday, October 12

Philadelphia Wing Festival from 2 to 7 p.m. at 2300 Arena, 2300 S. Swanson St. The third annual festival will feature a variety of mouthwatering delectables from more than 20 of the area’s best restaurants and food trucks with more than 60 styles of wings to choose from. Wing masters from throughout the city and surrounding areas will on hand to cook up everything from barbecue to hot. To purchase tickets, visit www.facebook.com/PhillyWingFest. All tickets purchased for the Philadelphia Wing Festival by phone or online are final. They do not issue refunds or exchanges. This is a rain or shine indoor/outdoor event. Ticket prices are subject to change and increase. 

Antique and Vintage Flea Market and Second Saturday Sidewalk Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at East Passyunk Avenue. East Passyunk Avenue welcomes back the Antique and Vintage Flea Market, Sidewalk Sale and Second Saturday. Shop from East Passyunk merchants and visiting flea market vendors, plus enjoy live music, food and other surprises. Phila Flea Markets returns with more than 50 vendors offering antiques, collectibles, vintage furniture, jewelry, clothing and accessories, glassware, pottery, artwork and more. This portion of the day is held along the Avenue and in the parking lot between Tasker and Morris. The Antique and Vintage Flea Market runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the sidewalk sale is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Halloween Story Time from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Fumo Family Library, 2437 S. Broad St. Join Fumo for a special Halloween Edition of Drag Queen Story Time hosted by Philly’s Drag Queen Brittany Lynn. Stories and arts and crafts will start at noon. Costumes are encouraged, and there will be a costume parade at the end of storytime. Don’t have a costume? Miss Brittany will be bringing Halloween costumes for purchase, with proceeds to benefit the Fumo library. Nothing over $10.

Third Annual Ed McBride Block Party with a Purpose from 2 to 8 p.m. at 1825 E. Moyamensing Ave. The party returns to its core purpose of raising money in Ed’s name for the organization he dedicated so much of his life, EOM Athletic Association.

Inaugural Mummers 4 Miler 2019 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sponsored by the Fancy Brigade Association and the Philadelphia Mummers Museum. For more information, visit here.  The 4-mile event costs $50 plus a $3 sign-up fee. The 1-mile event costs $30 plus a $2.50 sign-up fee. 

Jefferson Square Second Saturday Cleanup from 9 to 11 a..m at 3rd Street and Washington Avenue. Join the Friends of Jefferson Square Park on the second Saturday of every month and help your neighbors sweep, plant, weed and beautify Jefferson Square.

WEPA Jams at 9 p.m. at Franky Bradley’s, 1320 Chancellor St. An all-Latin Burlesque and Variety Showcase produced by South Philly-based artist Isa Ardiente and Dottie Riot. Kittened by Jewelissa. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $15 at the door. 

Thursday, October 17

Capt. Hartzell of the 3rd Police District, the city’s district attorney office and Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler’s Neighborhood Meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fiedler’s office, 2400 S. 9th St.

Teens, Tech and Love: Technology and Relationships at 4 p.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Second in a three-part series for teens on our relationships to technology and each other. In this session, participants will describe their likes and dislikes about communication through texting, identify ways in which miscommunication occurs and develop ways to text clearly and avoid misunderstandings. This program is presented by Planned Parenthood Community Educators.

Crimes and Mysteries Bookish Club at 11:30 a.m. at Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Join the library each month for a casual chat about favorite detective series, true crime podcasts, unsolved cases, cozy mysteries and more. There will be a different book to read and discuss each month. This month’s selection is My Sister The Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite.

Friday, October 18

Rep. Elizabeth Fiedler Mobile Constituent Services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Whitman Council, 2455 S. 3rd St.

Friends of the South Philadelphia Library Fundraiser Happy Hour at 4 to 7 p.m. at The Thirsty Soul, 1551 W. Passyunk Avenue. Come out to support the South Philadelphia Library and its hygiene kits.  Entrance is free, and Thirsty Soul will donate 10 percent of all happy hour proceeds to the Friend to support the library’s personal hygiene kit program. Since May, the library staff has distributed over 125 kits filled with supplies like deodorant, socks, soap, pads, bandages, and information on local resources. The Friends rely on individual donations to continue. The Friends won’t be collecting supplies onsite, but you can use their amazon wishlist at https://amzn.to/2Yuzfdj. Sacred Heart of Jesus Flea Market and Festival from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Enjoy a day of shopping, food, treats and crafts. 

Sunday, October 20 

Valentini Productions presents “The Brooklyn Bridge” at 2 p.m. at Sheet Metal Union Hall, 1301 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. The show starts at 3 p.m. Relive the magic with songs like “Sixteen Candles” and “The Worst That Can Happen to Me.” For tickets and information, call 267-938-3742. Tickets cost $42, including show and light fare. This event includes free parking.  

Wednesday, October 23

East Passyunk Witch CRAFT Beer Crawl from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 1904 E. Passyunk Ave. Enjoy seasonal craft beers at close to 20 bars and restaurants along East Passyunk Avenue. Online tickets are $6.66 and include $4 beer specials from Founders Brewing Company, a witch hat and a Witch Craft stamp card. Tickets purchased in-person at registration are $10. Earn stamps by purchasing a craft beer, food or other beverage at participating locations. Collect five or more stamps to be entered to win a gift certificate prize package worth more than $30, with runner-up prizes from local brewers and bars. Registration is at Garage at 1231 E. Passyunk (9th and Wharton) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. After that, crawlers are free to hit the bars of their choice. Witch CRAFT Stamp Cards must be returned to Pistolas del Sur (1943 E. St. Casimir Church’s Fall Bingo at 7 p.m. at EOM, 144 Moore St. Tickets cost $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Ticket prices include 10 rounds of bingo, wine, cheese, assorted dessert. Items available for purchase include extra packages, specials, daubers and raffles. Lap game prizes are $100 in cash. Coverall prizes are $500 in cash and a fall gift basket. Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 266 is holding its 23rd annual name reading at the memorial located at Front and Spruce streets at noon. The public is invited to hear the names of the 648 men and women from Philadelphia who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. Chapter 266 is looking for new members. East Passyunk Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1904 E. Passyunk Ave. East Passyunk invites you and your family for a double dose of spooktacular fun. Bring the whole family out for Fall Fest and Spooky Saturday. Family activities include costume contests (for children and dogs), pumpkin decorating, arts and crafts, storytime reading, live music, scarecrow scavenger hunt, trick or treating and pet treats. For the grown-ups, enjoy live music, more than 40 craft and arts vendors, fall fare, spirited cocktails and more. Most activities will be held at the Singing Fountain (East Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street), with select activities to be held at Mifflin Triangle (East Passyunk Avenue and Mifflin Street) and a scarecrow scavenger hunt all along the Avenue. Local SEPA Convention of States Group from 2 to 3 p.m. at South Philly Library, 1700 S. Broad St. The public is invited to learn about Article V of the U.S. Constitution, which provides that 34 states can get together to propose amendments to the Constitution. This is nonpartisan. So far, 15 states have applied. Pennsylvania might also apply.
