The South Philadelphia High School football team ran into a powerful opponent on Thursday and took a 48-0 loss at the hands of undefeated Abraham Lincoln. Southern (2-2) will regroup and travel to the Northeast Super Site on Thursday for a meeting with Jules E. Mastbaum. 

Neumann-Goretti won a key Philadelphia Catholic League Blue Division matchup on the road at Bonner-Prendergast on Friday night. The Saints (4-1, 3-0) defeated the Friars (4-2, 2-1) by a score of 26-20. Neumann-Goretti and Cardinal O’Hara are now the lone undefeated teams in the Blue Division and will meet on Oct. 22. Next up for the Saints is winless Lansdale Catholic (0-5, 0-2) on Saturday at the South Philly Super Site. 

After a long wait, the Academy at Palumbo finally opened its season on Friday but suffered an 8-6 loss to Belmont Charter School. The Griffins will face George Washington (2-2) on Friday at the Northeast Super Site.

Boys Soccer

The Academy of Palumbo came up short in a 2-1 loss to Boys Latin and fell to 1-4 on the year.

Furness dropped to 2-5 on the season following a 5-1 loss to Franklin Towne Charter and a 7-0 loss to Central.

Girls Soccer

Horace Furness earned its first win of the season on Thursday as the Falcons blanked School of the Future, 2-0. Furnace now stands at 1-3 on the season.

Prep Charter’s season finally got underway as the Huskies lost a 1-0 match to William Bodine on Thursday.

Volleyball

Creative and Performing Arts had a dominant week with a pair of sweeps over Olney Charter and Kensington. The Pegasus are now 4-2 and riding a four game winning streak behind the efforts of Skyy Brooks, Destinee Sherrod-Taylor, Trinity Graham, Jade Washington and Alexis Washington. 

The Academy at Palumbo also ran perfect on the week with 3-0 victories over Kensington and Girls High. The Griffins are 5-0 in Public League contests this fall.

Neumann-Goretti’s tough run continued with straight-set losses to Conwell-Egan and Lansdale Catholic, dropping the Saints to 1-4 in the Catholic League.

Furness suffered back-to-back losses last week but managed to take a set against Franklin Learning Center. The Falcons were then swept by Parkway West. Furness is 1-6 on the year.

Audenried dropped a 3-0 contest to Vaux Big Picture and now stands at 2-3 on the year.

Cross Country

Senior Erica Panei of Creative and Performing Arts was the overall female winner in the Pegasus’ first batch meet of the season, held in Fairmount Park.
