South Street gears up for busy August

A new initiative called “Meet Me On South Street” will take over the historic avenue every Thursday in August.

The South Street Headhouse District announced the slogan, signaling dozens of local bars and restaurants to welcome the city for special food and drink promotions. The district will also highlight its unique businesses by having special shopping and art experiences in conjunction with the drinks and dining experience.

“Meet Me on South Street” is one of many campaigns the district is implementing to continue its goal to provide a safer, cleaner, well-managed business district for the benefit of the entire community. The South Street Headhouse District aims to build an engaging and enticing place to work, visit, shop, invest and live.

“The idea of creating a campaign that is beneficial for both our business community and people coming to shop and visit is something we always strive for,” said Michael Harris, executive director of the South Street Headhouse District, “This campaign intends to highlight the vibrant business community on and around South Street, with a specific focus on parts of our district that cannot be found anywhere else in the city.”

Each week through the month of August will have a theme.

Aug. 4 will be Makers and Artist Spaces, which includes Eye’s Gallery, Wallflower Paper & Party Shop, South Street Art Mart and Yowie.

Aug. 11 has a Treat Yourself theme, highlighting Moon + Arrow, Marsh + Mane, Passion Boutique & Sexploratorium and more.

Aug. 18 puts the geeks at the head of the class with a Nerdy theme, featuring Head Hose Books, Atomic City Comics, The Philly Game Shop and Queen & Rook Game Cafe and more.

Aug. 25 goes back to the classics with Iconic South Street, which puts all-time favorites Tattooed Mom, Philly AIDS Thrift, Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens and Repo Records in the spotlight.

The South Street Headhouse District invites people to come down to explore the street, discover their new favorite spot, shop and dine at the many restaurants South Street has to offer. The campaign focuses on the district’s vibrant and multicultural business corridor through a constantly changing lens of weekly themes and specials from restaurants, retailers and more.
