A serious accident on Packer Avenue left one driver in critical condition while the other faces charges of driving under the influence, police said.
The accident occurred at the intersection of 10th and Packer Avenue at approximately 11:10 p.m. on July 29, police said.
According to police, the driver of a 2019 Mercedes Benz was traveling at a high rate of speed along Packer Avenue and disregarded a red light at 10th Street, crashing into a 2023 Chevy Equinox. A police officer witnessed the accident and rendered assistance to both drivers. While the officer was helping the driver of the Equinox, the driver of the Mercedes fled on foot, police said. The suspect was chased down and apprehended by police and was taken into custody on suspected charges of DUI and several other charges, police said. The victim in the Equinox was taken to Jefferson Hospital where he was admitted in extremely critical condition, police said.
