Back to School Bag Drive – From 1-4 p.m. at Children’s Playhouse, 2501 S. Marshall St. Latinos Educando Juntos, a nonprofit that offers resources and programs to childcare providers in the “LatinX” community, is presenting this South Philadelphia Back to School Book Bag Drive. Funded by Children’s Playhouse, families are invited to attend to receive giveaways including a book bag for each child, resource information for parents, popcorn and cotton candy. Twilight in the Gardens – from 7-10 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St. A live musical performance by Rego and guided art workshop by Jihan Thomas. Every month features a different genre of music and new teaching artist who helps guests create a work of art to take home.

Tickets are available at www.phillymagicgardens.org or via phone (215-733-0390, Ext. 119) two weeks prior to each event and are $25/adults, $20/students and seniors and $16/PMG members. Space is limited. Purchase ahead of time.

Stars of ‘Below Deck’ – At 8 p.m., join reality stars from the hit Bravo show “Below Deck,” as they discuss life on and off the sea at The Event Center at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. Tickets ($55), along with meet and greet upgrades, are available at Philadelphia.livecasinohotel.com or AXS.com.

This special evening will feature “The Stud of the Sea” Captain Lee Rosbach alongside his co-stars Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain and Chef Ben Robinson. The trio will give the audience an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the hit series, dish about hilarious guest interactions and take pre-submitted questions from the audience.

August 26

Back to Drool – From 1-4 p.m. at Attic Brewing Company, 137 Berkley St., hosted by Attic Brewing and the Young Friends of PAWS. A dog-friendly event. A portion of the proceeds from Attic Brewing’s hazy pale ale Bad Nina will be donated to PAWS. There will be beer and a chance to meet new people (and new dogs) who are passionate about animals. This event is free to enter. Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.

August 26

Back to School supply giveaway – From 2-6 p.m. at the Mount Hebron Baptist Church at 1419 Wharton St., free school supplies, book bags, food and entertainment.

August 27

St. Paul Parish Breakfast – From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in St. Mary Hall, St. Paul Parish Parish will host a Parish Breakfast to celebrate the feasts of St. Monica and St. Augustine. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Tickets can be purchased after Mass or at the rectory. 215-922-0355.

September 2-4

Labor Day at the Museum of the American Revolution – At 101 S. 3rd St., special end-of-summer programming at the Museum of the American Revolution includes a discovery cart where visitors can handle replica objects like the ones used by black soldiers during the Revolutionary War and a crafting station where kiddos can create their own Rhode Island Regiment cap — the distinctive hats worn by the black and Native American troops of the Rhode Island Regiment who famously marched through Philadelphia on their way to Yorktown in 1871. Bonus: Kids 12 and under are admitted free all weekend long.

September 3

Brazilian Day – From 1-7 p.m at Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. PECO’s summerlong Multicultural Series continues with another cultural celebration along the Delaware River waterfront on Labor Day weekend. Free and open to the public, Brazilian Day Philadelphia features a day of Brazilian culture, including traditional music, dancing and delicacies like the African-influenced Acarajé — a dish from northern Brazil made with black-eyed peas, spicy pastes and shrimp.

September 6

Discussion on Historic Preservation – At 7 p.m. at Gloria Dei Church, 916 S. Swanson St., Paul Steinke, executive director of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia, makes a case for historic preservation.

Admission is $10, which includes a drink ticket for a beverage of your choice (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). This program is hosted by the Historic Gloria Dei Preservation Corporation with all funds raised from this event going toward the preservation of Gloria Dei (Old Swedes’) Church and its graveyard.

September 6

Mercy Hospice Recovery Walk – Mercy Hospice will host its 4th annual recovery walk in support of those in recovery from substance abuse addictions and in remembrance of those loved and lost to addiction.

Following a prayer service, the walk will proceed through Philadelphia’s Washington Square West neighborhood and conclude at Women of Hope on Lombard Street with a light dinner. All are invited to attend.

September 9-10

Rittenhouse Square Fine Art Show – The show returns to the Square in center-city, marking its 96th year bringing fine art to all at this free event. One-hundred forty-five professional artists from around the country and Canada will exhibit their originals-only fine art work around the perimeter of the park. This year, the RSFAS will feature the Fleisher Art Memorial in the center of the park to celebrate its 125th anniversary. South Street Oktoberfest – The 15th Annual event kicks off Oktoberfest season with an all-day, all-ages block party on the 700 block of South St. with German beers and food, shaded seating in a giant tent for over 1,000 people, live music, dancers, dancing, liter lift competition, face painting, family fun and more. The event is free for general admission. Toy Train Show – From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Train Collectors Association Atlantic Division will hold its Fall Toy Train Show and Sale at the Penns Landing Caterers (Sheet Metal Workers Union Hall), 1301 S. Columbus Blvd. There will be 140 tables with vintage toy trains and repair parts for sale, test track, operating toy train layouts, kids activities and door prizes for adults and children. October 11

Garden Party Happy Hour – From 5-8 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St., enjoy a happy hour and crafting event in the colorful mosaicked wonderland. All drinks are included with admission, so guests can enjoy a cold beer, wine from Chaddsford Winery and beverages by Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Whiskey. Popcorn and pretzels along with treats from Ramona Susan’s Bakeshop will also be offered. After attendees are done making art they can try out the “tile bingo” game and listen to a DJ from BridgeSet Sound on hand to spin vinyl tunes.
