Karin Larsson: Let the Hand be Seen – From 5-8 p.m. The American Swedish Historical Museum will debut the artistic work of Karin Larsson for the first time in America. This exhibition is on loan from the Carl Larsson-gården in Sweden and will be touring across the U.S. with ASHM being the only East Coast location. Be the first to see her body of work at the opening of the exhibition with ASHM curator Christopher Malone. The exhibition opening is free to the public with light refreshments served. Annual Mario Lanza Ball Weekend – Family and fans of Mario Lanza will gather once again to pay tribute to the legendary tenor during a weekend of fundraising events. On Oct. 21 there will be a “Pizza and Movie” event at the Mario Lanza Museum (1214 Reed St.) beginning at 5 p.m. Lanza’s last film, “For the First Time,” will be shown complete. Seating is limited for this event and on a first come first paid basis.
On Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. at the IATSE Ballroom (2401 S. Swanson St.) there will be the Mario Lanza Ball, which will include the Mario Lanza Scholarship competition finals, a video presentation, an auction and dinner and dancing to Over the Top Entertainment.

Let’s Groove Tonight: Motown and The Philly Sound! – Herb Smith conducts The No Name Pops in its debut in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Cultural Campus. Two shows (3 and 8 p.m.). The No Name Pops will have its debut performance at the Kimmel Cultural Campus at the end of this month when it presents Let’s Groove Tonight: Motown and The Philly Sound. The British are Back – The Museum of the American Revolution and its neighbors will recreate a little-known time in city history when the British occupied Philadelphia. Each day will kick off at 10 a.m. with over 50 costumed historical interpreters on the museum’s outdoor plaza for the unfurling of the British flag and the reading of British Gen. Howe’s proclamation declaring Philadelphia an occupied city.
Throughout the weekend there will be a mix of free and ticketed events as the plaza will be transformed into a living history marketplace, where costumed interpreters will demo trades like carpentry, dressmaking, wheelwrighting and farming. Inside the museum you can meet additional living history interpreters, learn about what the occupation was like for black soldiers at a discovery cart and see archaeological objects found around Old City that date to Philadelphia’s occupation. The weekend also includes History Explorer meet-ups, a recreated British encampment, watch traditional military drills and meet prisoners of war to learn what life was like for them under British occupation and Neighborhood Walking Tours.

Seven Deadly Sins Returns – River Twice at 1601 E. Passyunk Ave. is bringing Back Its ‘Seven Deadly Sins’ themed dinners. Costumes are encouraged.Chef Randy Rucker will be putting together a seven-course menu, with each dish focused on one of the deadly sins. Dinner costs $125 per person.
