DA, police seek homicide suspects

The District Attorney’s Office is asking for the public’s help in finding a dozen suspects who it believes are responsible for homicides that were committed in South and Southwest Philadelphia over the last three years.

Of the 12, two were committed in South Philly, in the Point Breeze and Grays Ferry neighborhoods, the DA’s Office said.

“There are families across the city this holiday season who are mourning the loss of loved ones to these violent crimes,” said District Attorney Larry Krasner. “While my office’s partnerships with the Philadelphia Police Department and Sheriff Rochelle Bilal’s office are hugely important, the public plays a very important role in helping law enforcement bring those who commit these crimes to justice, too. We simply cannot do this alone. If you know the whereabouts of any of these suspects, please contact law enforcement immediately.”

Jaque Houston, 20, is wanted for allegedly shooting his 38-year-old stepfather during an argument on March 9 on the 1500 block of Dover Street in Grays Ferry. Police recovered eight 9mm cartridge casings at the scene but did not find a weapon, according to officials.

Gary Yeiser, 53, is sought for the bludgeoning of a 68-year-old male during an argument on Aug. 27 on the 2100 block of Dickinson Street in Point Breeze. Yeiser is wanted on third-degree murder charges after the victim passed away the following day.

The District Attorney’s Office listed 10 additional suspects who committed crimes in Southwest Philly but could possibly have links to South Philadelphia.

Police are looking for Gustavo Casalez, 25, for a fatal stabbing on the 6400 block of Dorel St. on Feb. 3, 2022; Basir Gillette, 18, for a fatal shooting on the 2300 block of S. Ithan St. on May 13, 2021; Andre Goff, 37, for a fatal shooting on the 5200 block of Chester Ave. on Sept. 23; Jermaine Powell, 46, for a fatal shooting near the 5000 block of Haverford Avenue on May 13; Seifuddin Sabir, 36, for a fatal shooting on Aug. 11, 2019 on the 3900 block of Ford Road; Kyle Smith, 30, for a fatal shooting near 56th Street and Osage Avenue on Sept. 22, 2021; Nathaniel Thomas, 33, for a fatal shooting on the 6100 block of Baltimore Ave. on Sept. 11, 2022; Donald Whitingham, 45, for a fatal shooting on Feb. 18, 2021 on the 2900 block of S. 70th St.; Malik K. “Members of the public with information about any of these suspects should call the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or our tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477),” said Philadelphia Police Lt. Hamilton Marshmond.
