Brooklyn Dumpling Shop coming to South Street

A popular food franchise is setting up shop on South Street.

On Dec. 20, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop will open its first Philadelphia location at 308 South St., bringing innovative dining creations to one of the city’s most iconic locations.

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop originated in East Village, New York and gained nationwide recognition for changing the customer dining experience. Created by entrepreneur and restaurateur Stratis Morfogen, Brooklyn Dumpling Shop is rooted in several cities’ culinary scene while drawing inspiration from its original shop in New York while using a unique approach to creating and distributing dumplings.

But each Brooklyn Dumpling Shop actually has a throwback to Philadelphia history, as the shop utilizes a cutting-edge automat system, which originally debuted in Philly in 1888, that distributes a variety of handcrafted dumplings at the touch of a button, providing a seamless and easy dining experience.

The South Street location is owned by Philadelphia residents Alex Flack, Nick Sordoni and Stephen Hudacek, who were eager to join the Philadelphia food scene.

“We are beyond excited to bring Brooklyn Dumpling Shop’s signature specialty dumplings, bowls, burgers and more to the people of Philadelphia,” said Sordoni. “The Philly restaurant community is second to none. We are honored to be a part of it and can’t wait to share our unique take on dumplings and more with all of you. Go Birds!”

Brooklyn Dumpling Shop will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m., providing a late-night snack opportunity for weekend night owls.
