The Universal Audenried Charter High School’s girls basketball team was celebrated on March 1 with a school pep rally after making history on the court.
After winning back-to-back Public League championships, the Rockets won the District 12 Class 4A championship for the first time under coach Kevin Slaughter.
Audenried defeated Nazareth Academy, 69-47, at La Salle High School on Feb. 29 to capture the District 12 championship behind a 31-point effort from junior Shayla Smith. Aniyah Howard scored a dozen points in the victory while Senaya Parker (11 points) and Heaven Reese (10) also hit double figures.
The victory followed the Rockets’ second straight Public League title, which was secured via a 55-49 victory over Imhotep Charter on Feb. 24 at the Liacouras Center.
