Cruise industry executive Jim Pollin purchased a 60,000-pound propeller from the SS United States Conservancy at Pier 82 June 17. The $120,000 endowment keeps the group from having to settle for a presumed smaller amount from a recycler as it attempts to generate millions for the refashioning of the SS United States. The famous ocean liner, which the conservancy bought in 2011, has rested on South Columbus Boulevard since 1996.
