A man told his victim that he was robbing him for a good cause — his children.

In South of South, an unknown man pointed a silver automatic gun at a 23-year-old’s side at 5:58 a.m. March 9 and said, “get down on the ground and give up the money,” Detective Danielle Tolliver of South Detective Division said. Following the demand, he ordered him to get up and stand behind a parked vehicle on the 700 block of South 20th Street. “I need the money for my kids,” he said before the man threw his wallet containing $20, identification and credit cards toward him and fled to call police.

The offender was described as black with a dark complexion, age 20 to 30, 6 foot, 170 to 180 pounds, with a goatee and wearing a dark-colored hoody.
