A fire at a Grays Ferry rowhome resulted in heavy damage to an upstairs bedroom and a fire- fighter passing out.

The fire department responded to a blaze at a two-story dwelling on the 1800 block of South Taylor Street at 5:32 a.m. Friday, Capt. Jeffrey W. Thompson, the department’s acting executive chief, said. The flames, which were ignited due to electrical wiring behind and under stored material in the front upstairs bedroom, were under control 13 minutes later. While smoke and soot filled the home, moderate to heavy damage affected only the front bedroom.

It was unclear if anyone was home during the incident, but none of the residents were harmed, Thompson said, although a fireman passed out and received a cut to his forehead while taming the flames. He was taken to HUP where he was evaluated, treated and released.
