The Phillies are partaking in a Major League Baseball-wide effort to raise childhood cancer awareness by hosting #PhilliesGoGold events each week of September — Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month. Up first is tomorrow night’s (Sept. 7) Kisses for Kyle Go Gold Children’s Fashion Show in the Hall of Fame Club at Citizens Bank Park, 1 Citizens Bank Way. The event will feature more than 20 kids, who are part of the Kisses for Kyle program, and their siblings. Celebrity models include Barrett Brooks and Amy Fadool from CSN Philly; Erin Coleman, Jim Rosenfield and Aundrea Cline from NBC10; Ike Reese from SportsRadio 94WIP; Dawn Stensland from Talk Radio 1210 WPHT; Kristen Johanson from KYW NewsRadio; Cecily Tynan, Ali Gorman and Wendy Saltzman from 6ABC. Doors open at 6 p.m., fashion show begins at 7 p.m. in the First Base side of the Hall of Fame Club. Tickets are $20-$30. Reunions are certainly not a new thing in South Philly, but there is one taking place on Saturday (Sept. 9) at FDR Park, Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, that is rather unique. A group of 11 ladies, who started a social club in 1968 called SOS (Sigma Osa Simmerson), is having a reunion. All the invitees attended Philadelphia Public Schools together and The Lakes is where their parents took the family for fun and relaxation. Some of the members have not been back in more than 50 years, so this weekend will offer them a chance to return to their roots. Former junior high teachers and jazz musicians, Anthony Williams (Tony Williams Quartet) and Joseph Stevenson will be in attendance. …
There is a 9/11 Heroes Run taking place on Saturday (Sept. 9) at the Philadelphia Navy Yard Marine Parade Grounds on South Broad Street starting at 9 a.m. The fun run/walk is open to all ages and is an opportunity to come out and say thanks to local veterans, their families and first responders. The 2017 Audi FEASTIVAL, which is taking place on Thursday, Sept. 28 at Fringearts, 140 N. Columbus Blvd., will have a strong South Philly vibe with Fond, 1537 S. 11th St., Bar Amis, 4503 S. Broad St., Royal Izakaya, 780 S. 2nd St., ITV, 1615 E. Passyunk Ave., and Kanella South, 757 S. Front St., being among the new participants to this entertaining gathering that will showcase more than 75 of Philadelphia’s top restaurants and bars. Nick Elmi, the winner of season 11 of Bravo’s “Top Chef” and owner of Laurel, 1617 E. Passyunk Ave., and ITV, will be one of the co-hosts. The night will also include cutting-edge performances from Fringearts for what is expected to be a multi-sensory experience. Philadelphia’s annual Fringe Festival, which includes several South Philadelphia productions and performers, opens tomorrow and runs through Sept. 24. Tickets to the Audi FEASTIVAL are $300-$450.
