Reunions are certainly not a new thing in South Philly, but there is one taking place on Saturday (Sept. 9) at FDR Park, Broad Street and Pattison Avenue, that is rather unique. A group of 11 ladies, who started a social club in 1968 called SOS (Sigma Osa Simmerson), is having a reunion. All the invitees attended Philadelphia Public Schools together and The Lakes is where their parents took the family for fun and relaxation. Some of the members have not been back in more than 50 years, so this weekend will offer them a chance to return to their roots. Former junior high teachers and jazz musicians, Anthony Williams (Tony Williams Quartet) and Joseph Stevenson will be in attendance. …

There is a 9/11 Heroes Run taking place on Saturday (Sept. 9) at the Philadelphia Navy Yard Marine Parade Grounds on South Broad Street starting at 9 a.m. The fun run/walk is open to all ages and is an opportunity to come out and say thanks to local veterans, their families and first responders.
