Yappy Hour – From 6-8 p.m. at Smarthouse, 2535 S. 13th St., join Young Friends of Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society for an evening of food and drink, raffle prizes and more fun. BVlicious Launch Party – From 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Piazza Di Bruno at 9th and Montrose streets, a social hour for LGBTQ+ Neighbors and Allies. Featuring DJ Robert Drake, food and drink available for purchase. In partnership with the Bella Vista Neighbors Association. All are welcome.

Twilight in the Gardens – from 7-10 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St. A live musical performance by Wind Music for Movement and guided art workshop by Soyan Unkow. Every month features a different genre of music and new teaching artist who helps guests create a work of art to take home.

July 28

A Big Band Swing Show featuring vocalist Eddie Bruce – At 6 p.m. at the Headhouse Shambles at 2nd and Pine streets. The first leg of the series presented by the No Name Pops. The show will start at 6 p.m. and the performance begins at 7 p.m. All shows are free and family-friendly. The concert series will feature different genres, ensembles, conductors, guest vocalists, and ending with The No Name Pops’ first full orchestra performance.

July 29

Smörgåsbeer – From 6-9 p.m. at the Swedish American Historical Museum. Taste new beers, ciders and more, challenge friends to unique games, and dance the night away to great music. Tickets are $45 in advance, $55 at the door and $15 for designated drivers. Attendees must be 21+ to participate in the alcohol sampling and must present a valid ID.

July 29-30

Kamp For Kids Philly Food Truck Festival – From noon to 6 p.m. at the Walmart Lot, 1675 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. This festival has food trucks, vendors, live music, carnival games, bounce houses, along with Temple Football and Hooter the Owl, the Philadelphia Union soccer league and Phang, and Star Wars characters to interact with the kids. Kamp For Kids offers free camps and other programs for children with autism and youth at risk. The Philly Food Truck Festival is an annual event held in South Philadelphia to raise money for our summer camp program for children with autism.

July 30

Franklin Square’s 17th Birthday – From 10 a.m. to noon at Franklin Square, 6th and Race streets, a free festive party for all. The celebration will be filled with family fun and lots of free activities including birthday hat and bag decorating, temporary tattoos, candy giveaways, a scavenger hunt and Once Upon A Nation storytelling. The celebration concludes with the Franklin Square Fountain Show at noon.

12th edition of the BlackStar Film Festival – the festival is an annual celebration of the visual and storytelling traditions of the African diaspora and of global communities of color, showcasing films by black, brown and indigenous artists from around the world. Once again hybrid, this year’s festival will offer opportunities for in-person attendance in Philadelphia and virtual participation online. Select in-person screenings will take place at the Perelman Theater at the Kimmel Center Cultural Campus, Suzanne Roberts Theatre and Lightbox Film Center. 3ICE North American Tour – At 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center, three-on-three professional North American ice hockey league makes a stop in South Philly. Each stop on the tour features four of the eight league teams, comprised of professional ice hockey players competing in three-on-three format for two eight-minute periods with a running clock. The single-elimination format includes two first-round games, a consolation match and a title game, for a total of four games each night. Individual tickets on sale at wellsfargocenterphilly.com.

Toddler Time: Meet Pippi Longstocking – At 10:30 a.m. at the Swedish American Historical Museum, come along to meet Pippi Longstocking, Sweden’s famous children’s book character created by Astrid Lindgren. Families will learn to be thing-finders like Pippi and visit Villa Villekulla in the playroom. Toddler Time is free for members and $5 for non-member children.

Garden Party Happy Hour – From 5-8 p.m. at Magic Gardens, 1020 South St., enjoy a happy hour and crafting event in the colorful mosaicked wonderland. All drinks are included with admission, so guests can enjoy a cold beer, wine from Chaddsford Winery and beverages by Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Whiskey. Popcorn and pretzels along with treats from Ramona Susan’s Bakeshop will also be offered. After attendees are done making art they can try out the “tile bingo” game and listen to a DJ from BridgeSet Sound on hand to spin vinyl tunes.
