Based on an investigation that commenced in April, City Wide Vice served search warrants at Caffe Italia, 1424 Snyder Ave., and Mediterranean Cafe, 1426 McKean St., June 4 and arrested Tonino Irace, 69, the owner of the first site; Canio Pascale, 66, an employee of the initial spot; and Zoheir Mouloudj, 44, the proprietor of the second location, for operating speakeasies. Law enforcement agents had begun their look at the Newbold entities because of complaints of suspected illegal activity and secured $584, 129 bottles of beer/liquor, a cash register and other items from Irace’s business and $17,528, 181 bottles of beer/liquor and other items from Mouloudj’s.

They charged Irace, of Glenolden, and Pascale, of the 2000 block of South Woodstock Street, with illegal liquor sales and criminal conspiracy and Mouloudj, of North Philly, with illegal liquor sales. All three await a July 9 status hearing.
