Arrest made in boat theft

A 31-year-old man was charged with stealing a boat on the Delaware River, police said

According to police, Roger Pojar, was charged with Violations of the Uniform Firearms Act, theft and other charges after he was caught stealing a boat on August 16 at approximately 7:10 p.m.

Police officers were flagged down by a member of a sail club, who stated a male boarded one of the club’s sailboats and traveled southbound on the Delaware River, police said. In an effort to locate the stolen boat, police pursued the stolen vehicle south along the Delaware River in the area of the Walt Whitman Bridge, where the officers observed a Coast Guard unit that had detained the stolen boat, police said.

Coast Guard officials said a US Coast Guard team located the stolen vessel near the Walt Whitman Bridge and conducted a recreational safety boarding. During the Coast Guard’s preparation to board, Pojar told the officers he had a firearm. The Coast Guard officers located the stolen firearm and detained the boat’s driver until police arrived. Pojar was placed under arrest by PPD officers once they arrived.
