Suspect charged in Point Breeze killing

A suspect has been charged in the shooting death of journalist Joshua Kruger, which occurred on Oct. 2 in the Point Breeze section of South Philadelphia.

Robert Davis, 19, was arrested on Oct. 25 and charged with the murder of 39-year-old Kruger along with other offenses. 

Kruger was shot several times in his torso inside his home on the 2300 block of Watkins Street at 1:28 a.m. on Oct. 2 and was found by 17th District police officers after reports of a shooting. Kruger was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:13 a.m. 

Kruger was a longtime journalist and justice advocate for the LGBTQ+ and recovery communities. He wrote for news outlets such as the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Citizen.
