South Philadelphia Shooting: 55 Shots Fired, 3 Injured, Homes Damaged

On Sunday night, September 15th, a shooting in South Philadelphia left three men injured and caused widespread damage to homes and cars in the area.

The incident occurred around 9:03 p.m. on the 1700 block of South Ringgold Street.

According to police, at least 55 shots were fired during the attack, using multiple types of firearms.

The victims, a 30-year-old man shot in the right wrist, a 37-year-old man hit in the left arm and thigh, and a 40-year-old man wounded in the right calf, were all transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle.

Fortunately, all three are now in stable condition following treatment.

According to authorities, police recovered 33 shell casings from .40 caliber firearms, 17 from 9mm guns, and five from .45 caliber weapons, indicating that different guns were used in the shooting.

In a disturbing turn, the extensive gunfire also hit eight homes and five vehicles, leaving the neighborhood shaken.

As a result, residents, unfortunately, woke up Monday morning to find their property damaged.

One resident, Robert Monroe, who lives over a block away, recounted hearing the shots while inside his home. And his car, like several others, was hit during the incident.

As troubling as it is, this neighborhood has seen violence before, with a shooting in June 2023 injuring two women, a man, and a toddler on the same block.

Currently, police are searching for three suspects involved in the South Philadelphia shooting.

No arrests have been made, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to call 215-686-TIPS (8477).
