New Paradigm exhibition collaborates with Tuft the World

Paradigm Gallery + Studio will host an exhibition by painter Crystal Latimer at its new location at 12 N. 3rd St. in Northern Liberties, after moving from its longtime home in South Philly.

Fine House, a solo exhibition of new works by Latimer, is an expansion of her 2020 solo exhibition with Paradigm, Keepsakes, in which Latimer used colorful tapestries depicting affirmations of strength to ask the viewer to find their own inner power.

In Fine House, Latimer instead brings those affirmations into the physical space by also delving into home furnishings. The exhibition features eight tapestry paintings depicting moments of power, such as bears in battle, and reinterprets them through a delicate process and medium by using acrylics, gold leaf, pastel crayon and cotton fiber tassels. On three creative pieces, Latimer chose to work with local creative businesses like Butterfield Editions and Tuft the World, whose Tuft Education Studio is a tenant at South Philly’s Bok Building.

Rugs produced by Tuft the World and wallpaper printed in-house by Butterfield Editions at the Paradigm Arts Building will be the first instances of Latimer’s work crossing over into other creative disciplines. Fine House will be on view on the first floor of the Paradigm Arts Building through July 30 with a public opening reception on July 7 from 6-8 p.m.
