Grateful to GENA, Donatucci Library
Kudos to Mark Zimmaro for reporting the post-pandemic return of the annual food drive by the Girard Estate Neighbors Association (“GENA, Donatucci Library stock Philabundance,” Aug. 2). Such community support for families with food insecurity is both appreciated and necessary.
It was especially inspiring to read of the continuation of a vital partnership between GENA and the local Thomas Donatucci Library to collect and provide food supplies to Philabundance, which serves nine counties in the Philadelphia area and Southern New Jersey. This cooperation ensures both food relief for needy families and that food is not wasted.
As Zimmaro reports, this food drive is only one of many services provided by the Donatucci Library to the Girard Estate community as well as other neighborhoods. Their relationship with GENA is a perfect example of competent use of time and resources to protect vulnerable families in the community. As we get closer to autumn and the Thanksgiving holiday, this is one special community partnership for which we should be especially grateful.
