Rising Voices 2 Opening Reception – from 5-8 p.m. at Studio Incamminati on the 7th floor of the Bok Building, 1901 S. 9th St., over 40 realist paintings by some of the nation’s most promising women artists.

The exhibition features the finalists for the 2021 Bennett Prize, a major national competition for women realist painters, and a solo exhibition of the work of Aneka Ingold, winner of the 2019 Bennett Prize.

One of the nation’s top ateliers for contemporary realist painting, the faculty of Studio Incamminati teach the skills that unlock figurative realist art’s capacity to tell stories and to address the human condition in all its complexity.

This free exhibition presents a special opportunity for the young women of Philadelphia to take inspiration from a cast of talented female role models. The exhibition will be on view at Studio Incamminati through May 14.

Rita Rudner at Live! – Comedian, actor and best-selling author Rita Rudner is making her debut at the Event Center at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. Rudner is known for her hilarious and epigrammatic one-liners. She’s won Las Vegas’ Comedian of the Year nine years in a row and received the Casino Entertainment Legend Award in October 2017.

Jerry Tanenbaum and his Jazz Band – At 3:30 p.m. at the Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave. Listen to musician Jerry Tanenbaum and his jazz band as they perform beautiful examples of jazz through the ages, with some explanation of why and how the styles evolved.

Doing Business With the City – From 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Courtyard by the Marriott Philadelphia South, 1001 Intrepid Ave., Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson, in partnership with the African-American Chamber of Commerce of Pennsylvania, a free forum where minority/disadvantaged businesses throughout Philadelphia can learn how to apply for business opportunities with government agencies. Agencies in attendance: SEPTA, Rebuild Philadelphia, The Navy Yard/PIDC, Philadelphia Office of Economic Opportunity, Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia School District and the Port of Philadelphia.

Roller Derby – At noon at the Northeast Racquet Club & Fitness Center, 9389 Krewstown Road, Philly Roller Derby will host its first sanctioned home game of the 2023-24 season against Windy City Rollers. The game will feature Philly Roller Derby’s All Star A and B teams as well as a “wheel toss” fundraiser to support the league as they travel to the Tiny Tourney hosted by Atlanta Roller Derby next month. General admission is $15 when purchased online at TicketLeap and $20 at the door. Admission for children ages 12 and under is free.

SPHS Class of ‘63 Reunion – The South Philadelphia High School Class of 1963 (January-June) will hold its 60th reunion from 1-4 p.m. at Adelphia Restaurant, 1750 Clements Bridge Road, Deptford, New Jersey. Tickets are $60 and include a buffet luncheon with a cash bar. Spirits and History – from 7-9 p.m. at Riverside Hall on the church grounds, Columbus Boulevard and Christian Street. Calling all area history buffs who also love spirits, wine and craft beer. You’ll find all this, plus graveyard tours with stories about European settlers who came to America before William Penn, live jazz played by The Jazz Sanctuary, spirits from local distilleries, craft brews, hors d’oeuvres from local chefs and an auction where everyone wins. South Street Fest – From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., the South Street Headhouse District will be hosting its annual South Street Fest. The theme is Crowns All Around, as Brauhaus Schmitz’s Maifest, the Kentucky Derby and King Charles III’s coronation all take place on the same day as this year’s festival. From flower crowns to fascinators.

LOMO Spring Flea Market – From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of South Philadelphia High School, on Broad Street. Past flea markets have featured over 60 vendors and 1,500-plus shoppers. Event proceeds benefit the LoMo Civic Association. Neighborhood residents, professional vendors, crafters and artists are all welcome to apply for tables. $25 per space. 3ICE North American Tour – At 1 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center,, three-on-three professional North American ice hockey league makes a stop in South Philly. Each stop on the tour features four of the eight league teams, comprised of professional ice hockey players competing in three-on-three format for two eight-minute periods with a running clock. The single-elimination format includes two first-round games, a consolation match and a title game, for a total of four games each night. Individual tickets on sale at wellsfargocenterphilly.com.
