The Universal Audenried High School girls basketball team was honored at City Hall for its historic season, winning the Public League championship.

On March 20, City Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson presented each member of the team with citations for winning the league championship.

The Rockets were the first team in school history to win the PPL and it continued its great run into the second round of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Class 4A playoffs before bowing out with a loss to Trinity High School of Camp Hill.

Audenried (22-7 record) won the Public League championship by defeating Imhotep High School, 56-48, on Feb. 25, avenging a loss to Imhotep in the 2019 PPL title game.

Sophomore Shayla Smith was the recipient of a resolution from Johnson for becoming the fastest female to reach 1,000 career points in the history of the Public League. Smith, the Public League Player of the Year, reached the milestone in just 49 games, besting a mark set by University City’s Shawnetta Stewart who took 54 games.
