Latchkey celebrates 1-year anniversary

Latchkey, East Passyunk Avenue’s one-stop shop for vinyl, vintage and vibes, is celebrating a whole year of throwback fun with the Latchkey First Anniversary Karaoke Blowout slated for June 10 from noon to 6 p.m. featuring refreshments from Otto Distilling Co., karaoke hosted by DJ Pat Pharari and games with prizes.

The festivities at 1502 E. Passyunk Ave. will continue from 7-10 p.m. with Afterparty Like It’s 1999, a ticketed ‘90s-themed bash with more karaoke plus burlesque and drag performances, a best-dressed contest and complimentary cocktails and light bites.

Established as a love letter to the ‘80s and ‘90s by local media producer-turned-entrepreneur Marc Faletti, Latchkey boasts an extensive selection of essential vinyl records, vintage jewelry, official band tees and other “fun stuff” spanning collectibles, games, graphic novels and VHS.

“Latchkey started from a place of passion,” Faletti said. “I wanted to build a business that connects people to the pop culture that transformed our lives, that reconnects us to the powerful feelings they inspired in us. We’ve come a long way since launch; my team is so knowledgeable and passionate, and the community has been so receptive and welcoming. That’s why we wanted to do a karaoke blowout, so that community could take center stage as the real stars of this whole adventure.”

Afterparty Like It’s 1999, a limited-admission ticketed party, kicks off with performances by Philly-based burlesque performer Victoria Reno and the reigning Mr. Philly Drag King from 7–7:30 p.m., with them each singing ‘90s karaoke hits. Then the stage will open to ticket holders to showcase their singing skills while Pharari continues emceeing until 10 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear ‘90s-themed attire. One lucky fashionista will be named “Best Dressed” and will win a free vinyl record of their choosing from Latchkey’s inventory. Tickets to Afterparty Like It’s 1999 are $30 each, in limited quantity, and available at shoplatchkey.com.
