December 7

Chanukah on the Avenue – From 5-7 p.m. at 1321 S. Juniper St., a now annual Chanukah extravaganza in partnership with East Passyunk Avenue, featuring music, celebration and connection with the local community. The menorah lights will be twinkling every night of Chanukah at a big display on East Passyunk, along with a special offering this year – at the South Philadelphia Shtiebel, in partnership with the South Philly Coop and other local partners, for Chanukah festivities that will include latkes, crafts and live music. RSVP required; free and open to all.

December 9

Hot Chocolate Crawl – From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on East Passyunk Avenue, this is a pay-as-you-go event, participating businesses will sell hot chocolate to avenue crawlers while EPOP sings carols up and down the avenue. Crawlers will have the option to purchase a commemorative cup for discounted hot cocoa — purchase through Eventbrite and pick up on the day of the crawl at 1904 E. Passyunk.

Fiber Craft Holiday Market – from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the first floor of the Bok Building, 1901 S. 9th St., this market boasts all things fiber craft: yarn shops, craft supplies and kits, indie dyers and spinners (yarn and fiber), handmade items, fiber art, textile wearables, jewelry and more. With 60-plus vendors, guests can shop all their favorite fiber and textile related gifts (it’s the holiday season) and celebrate the craft of handmade goods.

December 10

Holiday Concert – At 7 p.m. at the SHDA Ballroom, 1919 E. Passyunk Ave. Catch the 15-piece City Rhythm Orchestra for a free community holiday show, as they cook up exciting and innovative versions of seasonal classics. In addition to their renowned big band sound, the group features vocalists Steve Ritrovato, Rich Cox and Gil Morrow, plus many fine soloists. Enjoy shopping and dining on the Avenue, then top it off with a performance that is sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

December 12

Winter Party – From 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Whitman Library, 200 Snyder Ave., celebrate winter with crafts, hot cocoa and seasonal giveaways like mittens and gloves. Pizza will be served at 5 p.m. For children, teens and families. No need to register, just show up. In Whitman Library’s backyard, or inside if it’s raining. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of Whitman Library.

Holiday Party – From 1-3 p.m. at Oak Street Health, 2310 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd., a fun ‘n festive holiday party. Celebrate the season with food, music, games and prizes. Take a look around, meet the team and get help finding a primary care provider that’s right for you. Light refreshments will be served. RSVP at 267-758-7807.

December 16-17

Holiday Blues Brunch – at the Twisted Tail, 509 S. 2nd St. The Southern-inspired restaurant, bar and live music venue on Headhouse Square is hosting Holiday Blues Brunch from noon to 3 p.m., with live blues renditions of classic holiday tunes delivered by Philly-raised and NOLA-sculpted funky jazz pianist Reverend Chris on the 16th and local Grammy-nominated Bluesman Randy Lippincott on the 17th. The modern-rustic restaurant and juke joint will be outfitted with seasonal decor to bolster the cozy ambiance, and the bar is set to feature traditional hot cocktails to accompany The Twisted Tail’s Southern comfort brunch menu.

Monthly Medicare Basics Talk – held in-center every third Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. at Oak Street Health South Philly Center, 2310 S. Christopher Columbus Blvd. Light refreshments will be served. Call 267-758-7807 to reserve your seat.

Billy Nation: A Tribute to Billy Joel – At 8 p.m. at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, a musical celebration of an artist whose catalog has some 33 top 40 hits.
