The company’s CEO and owner, Milan Harris, was on hand to treat the women to an all-day event that included breakfast, hair and makeup makeovers, lunch, group discussions, a visit to a spa and gifts from MDR. The event took place on Dec. 23 at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia on Packer Avenue.
The five mothers were Tamika Morales of Southwest Philadelphia; LaTanya Boyd-Smith of Kingsessing; Jeanine Herring of Cobbs Creek; Lashe Bradshaw of Grays Ferry; and Dionne Miller of Point Breeze.
According to event organizers, Harris approached Councilmember Kenyatta Johnson, chairman of City Council’s Special Committee on Gun Violence Prevention, several weeks ago with the idea. Johnson’s office recommended the five women who were selected to participate and the day was paid for by Milano Di Rouge, which is located on Spring Garden Street.
Harris is the creator of a pair of support clubs called The Womanaire Club and The Mamanaire Club. Over the years, Harris has given back to the city, including donating more than $50,000 to single mothers in Philadelphia at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She has funded Thanksgiving, Christmas and back-to-school drives for Philadelphia children and families and has donated thousands of MDR’s clothes and shoes to Haiti and other third-world countries through the nonprofit organization Soles4Soles.
