Four local yarn shops will take part in the first-ever Philly Yarn Crawl from March 14-17.
The event includes 16 total yarn shops in the Greater Philadelphia area for a four-day event that brings together knitters, crocheters, weavers, spinners, felters and stitchers.
South Philly establishments Loop (1914 South St.), Weaver House, (Bok Building, 1901 S. 9th St., spaces 203, 423), South Philly Yarn and Craft (1625 S. 11th St., Suite B) and nearby Yarnphoria (1020 Pine St.) are four of the participants but a full list of vendors in the area can be found at https://www.phillyyarncrawl.com/map.
The Philly Yarn Crawl was developed out of a love for fiber craft and bringing the creative community together; the crawl celebrates an appreciation of fiber crafts, community, inclusivity, sustainability and the joy and magic that comes from making something with your hands.
Anyone can register for the crawl by pre-ordering a Passport or Passport/Tote that will be available for pick-up during the crawl. Each yarn shop will be giving away a free pattern as well as a chance to win a raffle prize. Guests who visit at least 10 of the shops have a chance to win one of three big raffle prizes.
Five percent of the revenue generated through the Philly Yarn Crawl registrations will go to the Loose Ends Project, which aims to ease grief, create community and inspire generosity by matching volunteer handwork finishers with projects people have left unfinished due to death or disability. When a crafter dies mid-project, or is no longer able to do handwork due to disability or illness, they will likely have unfinished items they were making for friends and family. These tangible, handmade expressions of love could get lost, donated away or thrown out. Loose Ends Project matches unfinished projects to volunteer finishers who complete and return the garments, blankets and accessories to their loved ones.
