Audenried wins Public League crown

The Universal Audenried Charter High School won its first Philadelphia Public League girls basketball championship on Feb. 15 by defeating Imhotep Charter, 56-48, at Temple University’s Liacouras Center. 

Led by an MVP performance from junior Aniyah Howard, who scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds, the Rockets (21-5 record) won the school’s first Public League championship in any sport.

Sophomore Shayla Smith, The Philadelphia Public League regular season MVP, spent stretches of the game in foul trouble, accounting for 13 points, including nine in the final quarter. She recently became the fastest player in the Public League to reach 1,000 career points. Senior ZayAhni Neurell also reached double figures with a 12-point effort.
